This is the image for the news article titled Superintendent's Message Regarding Face Coverings/MasksHello Devine ISD Families,

The Devine ISD Board of Trustees and district leadership feel that revisions to our current COVID-19 Mitigation plan can be made in lieu of:

● improved conditions surrounding the Covid-19 Pandemic
● a consistently low transmission rate in the community
● recent updates to CDC guidance

And in conjunction with Governor Abbott’s recently issued Executive Order (GA-36) which states that:

“No governmental entity, including a county, city, school district, and public health authority, and no governmental official may require any person to wear a face covering or to mandate that another person wear a face covering…Notwithstanding the above, public schools may continue to follow policies regarding the wearing of face coverings to the extent reflected in current guidance by the Texas Education Agency, until June 4, 2021. The Texas Education Agency shall revise its guidance such that, effective 11:59 p.m. on June 4, 2021, no student, teacher, parent, or other staff member or visitor may be required to wear a face covering.”

Therefore, Devine ISD hereby enacts the following change to the Devine ISD Covid-19 Mitigation Plan and practices:

Starting at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 28, 2021, all Devine ISD operations and activities will be face covering/mask optional for staff, students, and visitors. Unless circumstances surrounding health guidance or changes in current law deem otherwise, this will be our anticipated protocol continuing into school year 2021-22. Please understand that students, families, and employees who feel that continuing to wear a face covering or mask at school or school events is still in their (or their family’s) best interest may do so without implications from the district. Devine ISD and district employees, however, shall not be responsible for monitoring students that have been instructed by parents/guardians to wear masks while at school.

Decisions that affect our students are never taken lightly, and, as always, Devine ISD will continually monitor the Covid-19 environment and make changes when conditions warrant. Thank you for your continued support and cooperation. It is an honor for us to serve our students and families.

Sincerely,

Dr. Todd Grandjean
